EU Mediator Meets Ethiopian, OAU Officials

ADDIS ABABA, Ethiopia (PANA) - Ethiopian Prime Minister Meles Zenawi met Tuesday with the European Union mediator, who was appointed December to provide support to OAU efforts in resolving the border dispute between Ethiopia and Eritrea, now in its 22nd month.
Senator Rino Serri, deputy prime minister of Italy, is currently on his first visit to Asmara and Addis Ababa.

He arrived Monday after three days in Asmara on similar mission where he also met Eritrean President Issaias Afeworki.

Serri also met with OAU Secretary General Salim Ahmed Salim Tuesday "for consultations" on his mediation efforts.

His visit was not reported in a advance by the official media and there was no report on the state radio's afternoon newscast on his meeting with Meles.

The premier's talks with Serri were confirmed by government spokesperson Selome Tadesse, but she declined to go into details.
