Assab, 30 April 2009 - The Administrator of Southern Red Sea region, Mr. Osman Mohammed Omar, said that extensive agricultural programs are envisaged for implementation in the region aimed at achieving food security on the basis of the principle of self-reliance.
In a meeting with the inhabitants of the semi-urban centers of Ti'o, Edi and Beilul, Mr. Osman outlined the development programs being undertaken to expand the introduction of equitable social service and reinforce the endeavors to put in place solid infrastructure facilities.
Indicating that vigorous activities are being carried out to place extensive plain under cultivation through constructing water diversion scheme in Ankaelai, South Denkalia sub-zone, the Administrator called on the inhabitants to back up such endeavors.
Mr. Osman further pointed out that major tasks have been accomplished in the fisheries sector that would lay solid ground for export, and that the concrete outcome of the Warsay-Yikaalo Development Campaign is already being witnessed on the ground, as the people have already become beneficiaries of the campaign.
Meanwhile, the regional Administrator observed the tasks underway to put in place infrastructure works aimed at expanding fish processing facilities in the sub-zones of Araeta, Central Denkalia and South Denkalia, as well as Ti'o and Edi.
