Afabet, 17 December 2009 - Farmers practicing fruits and vegetables farming in Afabet sub-zone said that they are striving to meet the demand of the local market, and thereby stabilize price hike.
The farmers noted that they are redoubling efforts to back up the endeavors towards achieving food security and expressed appreciation to the Government's continued support.
The head of the Agriculture Ministry's branch in the sub-zone, Mr. Hagos Gebretinsae, pointed out that the members are doing their level best in supplying production to the market and called on them to enhance their endeavors. He further indicated that palm plantation for experimental purposes in Kerot-Keih is bearing fruitful outcome. Training in this regard has also been offered to the farming community, he added.
Mr. Hagos went on to explain that concerted action is being taken to support and encourage farmers, besides organizing them in association with a view to boosting output.
Reports indicated that there are more than 350 farmers engaged in about 270 hectares of fruits and vegetables farming in Afabet sub-zone.
