The United Nations Mission in Ethiopia and Eritrea (UNMEE) today reported that a vehicle investigating yesterday's mine incident hit another landmine on the road north of Tsorena, Eritrea, injuring a peacekeeper.
The Canadian soldier injured in today's explosion suffered a ruptured eardrum, UNMEE said.

Yesterday two light armoured vehicles belonging to Canadian peacekeepers struck mines near Tsorena, leading to damage to the vehicles but no casualties.

The vehicles had been on a route-proving operation to render local roads safe from mines. Routes must be cleared in order to establish and monitor the future buffer zone between Ethiopian and Eritrean armies, UNMEE said.
