WFP delivered a monthly cash-based transfers (USD 120 per household) of emergency food assistance to 2,476 people (53 percent women) affected by climate hazards and global economic crises in the department of Usulután.

On 20 September, WFP and the Ministry of Education inaugurated the pilot project "Kitchen-in-a-Box" (KIAB), benefiting 2,000 students annually in Altavista School in San Salvador. These smart kitchens are made from used shipping containers and equipped with state-ofthe-art technology, such as induction stoves, and electric pressure cookers to cook school meals more time-efficiently. Also, solar panels provide renewable energy to reduce greenhouse gases to promote environmentally sustainable practises.

Under WFP’s early recovery programme, some 500 smallholder farmers received capacity strengthening support in the Department of La Unión. These programmes aim to establish sustainable communityled vegetable gardens, including biofertilizer preparation, soil and water conservation, and pest control amidst climate variability. In the same region, under its resilience programme, WFP assisted 275 smallholder farmers in preparing sowing areas and planting trays and delivered silos to better store crops.

WFP provided a monthly cash transfer of USD 120 to 200 youngsters in La Unión to cover their immediate food needs during their gastronomic certification programme in the Gastro-Lab project. The participants are learning nutritious cooking techniques, nutrition, food safety, customer service and personal development.
