At least one woman was killed and several people wounded in a recent demonstration staged by Sudanese refugees in Cairo. The refugees were demanding urgent repatriation by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees. The Head of the task force for the refugees in Egypt's Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Kormac Choul Bodong, told Radio Miraya that he has urged the government of southern Sudan to intervene because the situation of the refugees is worsening.

Choul Bodong added that other neglected communities like the Nubians, Darfurians and the Blue Nile citizens residing in Egypt are expecting the government of southern Sudan to repatriate them.
