Operational Updates

In September, WFP provided value vouchers to 10,128 migrants across the country. Another 7,682 Pregnant and Breastfeeding Women and Girls received cash-based transfers (CBT) in 16 of 24 provinces in the country.

WFP assisted 10,903 migrants and refugees from host communities with hot meals at shelters and canteens. Some 4,480 on-the-move migrants received food kits and a USD 10 one-time voucher to buy food at local supermarkets.

In September, WFP conducted initial needs assessments and temporary shelter management workshops in Manta, Santa Elena, Samborondón, and Durán. These workshops equipped 120 local government officials with analytical tools to enhance emergency response capabilities and comprehensively assist affected communities.

In September, WFP organized a diagnostic workshop in Samborondón and Guayaquil to evaluate the preparedness levels of population and institutions and establish anticipatory measures for flood preparedness. Some 60 individuals, including community members and public officials participated.

On 25 September, WFP and the Guayas Prefecture signed a Memorandum of Understanding aimed to solidify their partnership and jointly implement future actions on disaster risk reduction and school feeding in alignment with WFP mandate and its Country Strategic Plan 2023-2027
