Since the start of 2025, the rainy season has been impacting most parts of Ecuador, causing floods, triggering landslides and resulting in casualties and damage.
According to the National Secretariat for Risk Management (SGR), as of 20 January, two people died, one in Tungurahua and another in Pichincha province, two others have been injured, and 1,339 people have been affected, most of them in Chimborazo and Guayas provinces.
For the next 24 hours, moderate to locally heavy rainfall is expected across most of western Ecuador.
