Ecuador - Severe weather, floods and landslides, update (NOAA-CPC, SGR) (ECHO Daily Flash of 28 April 2023)

  • The number of fatalities and impacted people continues to increase following the rainy season started at the beginning of January across most parts of the country.
  • According to the Ecuador Risk Communication Management Department (SGR), as of 27 April, 33 people died in the rainy season (plus 49 fatalities and 39 still missing people due to the landslide in the Alausí Town area, Chimborazo Province occurred on 26 March) and 43 have been injured. More than 69,300 people have been impacted (29,907 in Guayas Province) as well as 14,809 houses (of which 121 were destroyed).
  • For the next 24 hours, moderate to heavy rainfall is expected across most parts of the country, particularly over the north-western and central provinces.
