Heavy rain continues to hit most parts of Ecuador, particular provinces in the west of the country (Manabí, Guayas, Los Ríos, El Oro, Esmeraldas, Loja and Chimborazo), causing floods, triggering landslides, and increasing the number of fatalities and the extent of damage.
As of 10 March, the National Secretariat for Risk Management (SNGR) reports at least 18 fatalities, 950 people sheltered in 32 temporary accommodations, and a total of 83,699 people affected. In addition, 23,689 houses were affected, including 115 that have been destroyed.
On 6 March, Ecuador requested assistance from the Union Civil Protection Mechanism (UCPM) consisting of food, WASH, shelter and drainage material items for managing the floods in the country.
On 26 February, the Copernicus Emergency Management Service (EMSR789) was activated to provide flood extent emergency mapping, 34 maps have been produced so far.
On 11-12 March, more moderate rainfall throughout the country with isolated heavy rainfall particularly over the east is expected.
