Hurricane Georges: Dominican Republic: PRRO distribution of commodities in affected areas

The Dominican Republic began in May distribution of commodities in the poorest areas affected by Hurricane Georges. The operation will mainly concentrate in the bateyes, or slum-type communities near the sugar mills. FFW and supplementary activities are included. The FFW activities are aimed at the rehabilitation of community infrastructure and agricultural rehabilitation.

The operation has to date received only 1,000 MT of the required 7,188 MT. The Dominican government has provided USD 122,380 in building materials for the operation and has indicated that it will be providing an additional contribution during the week of 18 June.
