Dominican Republic – Flash Floods (ONAMET, Media) (ECHO Daily Flash of 21 March 2018)

  • Heavy rain has been affecting several areas of the country (especially the north) over the past week, causing flash floods.
  • According to media, as of 21 March at 8.00 UTC, 500 homes and businesses have been damaged and three hospitals have been flooded in Puerto Plata province. They also reported that Montellano, Sosua, Playa Oeste, Aguas Negras and Rescate Ambar in the northern Dominican Republic were the areas most affected by floods and flash floods.
  • Over the next 24 hours, more locally thunderstorms with locally heavy rain and strong winds may continue to affect the northwest, north, northeast and southeast parts of the country.
