ST. GEORGE GRENADA, SEPT. 29, 2017 :- Grenada has increased its initial donation to the hurricane ravaged islands.
Immediately following the passage of Hurricane Irma, Prime Minister Dr. the Right Hon. Keith Mitchell announced that Grenada will be donating One Million Dollars to the neighboring islands affected by the storm.
Within days of Irma’s devastation, Dominica was ravaged by Hurricane Maria which led to a Cabinet decision to increase Grenada’s pledge.
During Government’s weekly Post Cabinet media Briefing on Tuesday, Minister for Implementation Hon. Emmalin Pierre announced that the new total to be distributed is $1.7 million
“Despite our challenges as a nation we have to give and give significantly and so we have decided in the following breakdown to give financially to those countries that were affected,” said Minister Pierre.
“Anguilla 200,000 dollars, Barbuda, 300,000 dollars , Tortola, 200,000 dollars , Cuba 500,000 dollars and Dominica 500,000 dollars . Cabinet would have taken that decision yesterday and we continue to give our support. Additionally, we have also expanded in excess of 50,000 dollars to evacuate Grenadian nationals who were in some of the raged countries”.
In addition to Government’s monetary pledge, Grenada has been able to muster support from several organizations and specialized individuals to assist in the restoration efforts.
