Evacuation to be Considered as Tropical Depression Grace Approaches
With the possibility of Tropical Depression Grace affecting Dominica on Friday September 11th, the relevant authorities are taking all necessary measures to protect lives.
The Office of Disaster Management proposed that residents in low lying areas may have to be evacuated.
“In river bank areas and along water courses which are prone to flooding and have been compromised,” he listed, “We cannot overemphasize the need to be vigilant and take proactive action in order to save lives and property. We have already lost one too many lives.”
According to Coriette, there are about 11 confirmed deaths and several others unaccounted for.
Those will also include residents in the special disaster areas. He also listed Checkhall as a point of interest.
Whether Grace passes as a tropical depression, remnant low or an open wave, the rainfall associated with the system could cause serious damage.
