Poor rains persist in all pastoral livelihood zones

Key messages

• The food security situation of poor urban households will likely deteriorate further due to a combination of high cost of poor urban expenditure basket and typical seasonal income limits, as assistance is not likely to improve sufficiently. Djibouti city is also facing critical water shortages and water rationing has been initiated by the Government.

• The delay in the establishment of the Karan/Karma rains is disrupting livestock migration patterns, particularly in the Northwest Pastoral Zone. Preliminary results of a seasonal assessment indicate high livestock mortality, also primarily in the northwest pastoral livelihood zone.
