OPERATIONAL DEVELOPMENTS

UNHCR and partners launched the campaign against genderbased violence. On 25 November, UNHCR, in partnership with the National Union of Djiboutian Women (UNFD), launched the "UNiTE against gender-based violence" campaign, which will run for 16 days from 25 November to 10 December. The campaign was launched in the refugee village of Markazi in the presence of government representatives, local authorities, UN agencies, refugees and other humanitarian partners. All partners agreed on the need for active cooperation to promote women's empowerment and strengthen local initiatives. UNHCR awarded certificates to refugee committees that support the fight against sexual and gender-based violence, in recognition of their commitment and active role in transforming their communities.

REFUGEE RESPONSE

UNHCR and ONARS continued to register new arrivals. As part of efforts to strengthen the registration and protection of refugees, UNHCR and ONARS continue to register new arrivals. During the week, 14 families comprising 25 individuals were received and registered in Djibouti City, and as part of continuous registration process, ONARS and UNHCR have jointly processed a total number of 13 cases requiring activation, data correction, address changing and children or spouses’ addition.

UNHCR and ONARS continued to issue official documents to refugees. As part of efforts to strengthen the protection and integration of refugees, UNHCR and ONARS continue to issue certificates to refugee families. Over the course of the week, some 111 certificates and 12 identity cards were renewed and reissued to refugee families, including 12 cards in Djibouti City as well as 45 and 66 certificates in Holl-Holl and Ali-Addeh respectively. Having legal documentation is vital for refugees as it protects their rights and allows them to access essential services such as education and health care.

Refugees in Holl-Holl receive food assistance. During the week, about 6,239 people living in the Holl-Holl refugee village received food assistance as part of the WFP monthly food distribution.
