OPERATIONAL DEVELOPMENTS

Korean and Ethiopian doctors conducted medical outreach in Markazi village. On 6 January, a team composed of Korean and Ethiopian doctors started offering medical services to refugees in Markazi village. This medical outreach that lasted three provided to refugees four specialized medical services including dental, gynecology, ophthalmology, and visceral surgery. The outreach was organized by ONARS.

REFUGEE RESPONSE

Six refugees underwent cataract surgery. After ophthalmology consultations conducted by GX foundation team, six Yemenis were found in need of cataract surgery and were operated on at Tadjourah hospital. UNHCR and its partner CIAUD accompanied the refugees through the procedures and provided all the logistical support necessary. All six refugees have already been discharged from the hospital and are doing well.

Eritrean vulnerable families received tents for shelter. On 2 January, UNHCR in collaboration with ONARS distributed family tents to vulnerable Eritrean families. This is in line with helping vulnerable families whose shelters are in deteriorated state. About 53 families were assisted.

Refugee women and girls in Ali-Addeh and Holl Holl villages received cash assistance. UNHCR, in collaboration with ONARS and CIAUD, continued cash distribution to help refugee women and girls aged 12 to 49 in the refugee villages of Ali-Addeh and Holl Holl. More than 4,365 individuals were served in cash, the distribution, which began last September, has already benefited refugee women and girls in the city of Djibouti and Markazi, this assistance aims to facilitate refugee women and girls in access to hygiene kits an essential step towards empowerment.
