On 25 June, provincial authorities responsible for humanitarian action reported the arrival of over 2,700 newly displaced people in Pibaoré-Centre, following security incidents in villages across Pibaoré commune, Sanmatenga province, in the Centre-Nord region. The incidents reportedly led to civilian casualties and injuries, as well as property damage, including the destruction of a community water pump. Improvised explosive device kills four, injures 10 others in Borno State
On 24 June, an improvised explosive device (IED) detonated along the Damboa–Maiduguri Road in Borno State, north-east Nigeria, killing four people and injuring 10 others. The victims were travelling from Damboa to Maiduguri when their vehicle struck the IED, suspected to have been planted by a non-state armed group. The explosion caused significant disruption, leading to hours-long gridlock along the busy route and hindering both commercial and humanitarian movements. According to the United Nations Mine Action Service (UNMAS), between January and May 2025, 157 civilians—including 19 children—were affected by explosive ordnance in Borno, Adamawa, and Yobe states. IEDs accounted for approximately 60 per cent of all explosive ordnance incidents recorded. In 2024, UNMAS reported 418 civilian casualties from explosive ordnance—the highest annual toll since 2018—highlighting the persistent and growing threat these devices pose in north-east Nigeria.

Number of IDPs in Mali rises to over 400,000
On 24 June, the Ministry of Health and Social Development and IOM released new displacement data based on December 2024 figures. It shows 402,167 people are internally displaced in Mali, a 6.2 per cent increase since September 2024. Most displaced people are in Gao, Menaka, Mopti, and Bandiagara, mainly due to conflict and severe flooding in 2024. Women and children each make up 58 per cent of those displaced. The number of returnees also rose by 1 per cent, with 8,741 more people returning. These areas also see ongoing displacement, showing a trend of short-term movements after armed groups withdraw. While 86 per cent of IDP sites received aid, 14 per cent reported no assistance, especially in Niafunké, Goundam, and Youwarou.

Health facilities looted in Mambasa territory in Ituri
On 26 June, suspected members of an armed group raided the locality of Elake Centre in Mambasa territory, in the northeast of the country, looting two health posts, four pharmacies, a medical warehouse, as well as medicines and nutritional supplies, according to humanitarian sources. The assailants abducted several civilians and forced them to transport the stolen goods. The incident has severely compromised life-saving nutrition services for at least 347 children suffering from acute malnutrition. They specifically targeted medical and nutritional supplies delivered on 23 June through a UNICEF and WFP supported project implemented by a local partner. OCHA is stepping up advocacy with local authorities to strengthen security measures and improve the protection of health facilities and medical personnel.
