HIGHLIGHTS

  • Between January-December 2024 over 3 million people newly displaced in DRC-North Kivu, Ituri, South Kivu and Tanganyika provinces account for 96 per cent of IDPs (OCHA).
  • After Luanda peace process, on 31 July 2024 DRC and Rwanda signed a new cease fire which was frequently violated by the parties- by December 2024 intense clashes resumed.
  • December 2024, 290,000 people displaced in Lubero territory due escalation of attacks by Congolese army, its allies and the M23 (OCHA).
  • April 2024 Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between the DRC Government and some armed groups in Djugu territory, Ituri province, violence against civilians and infrastructure continued despite MoU. Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) extended attacks to South of Ituri and Greater North Kivu provinces reaching Beni and Lubero territories in North Kivu province.
  • Escalation in conflict in Eastern DRC impacted spread of Cholera, mpox and Measles-suspected cholera rose in 2024 compared to 2023.
