HIGHLIGHTS

  • Between January 2024 and March 2025, the DRC reported over 94,000 suspected mpox cases and 1,736 deaths (CFR 1.83 per cent). Despite improved surveillance, low testing rates (47 per cent) raise concerns of under-detection, especially in Kinshasa, North/South Kivu, and Sankuru. Children under 10 and young adults are most affected.
  • Between the start of the mpox response and March 2025, 521,048 people were vaccinated out of a 3.5 million target - 14.88 per cent coverage.
  • UNICEF and partners strengthened Infection Prevention and Control and water, sanitation, and hygiene in five provinces, reaching over 200 health facilities, 73 schools, and 819 households. Between February and March 2025, more than 55 million people were reached with life-saving messages on key family practices delivered in five national languages.
  • UNICEF’s mpox response faces a $39.1 million funding gap (53 per cent), with major shortfalls across protection, social services, vaccination, IPC, mental health, and case management.
