UNHCR operational highlights
• Refugees from the Central African Republic continued to arrive in the Democratic Republic of the Congo even though the border has been officially closed since 5 December. Most of those fleeing were women and children. Upon their arrival in DRC, refugees are registered by the National Commission for Refugees and relocated to one of the four refugee camps. There they receive emergency assistance, including shelter, blankets, sleeping mats, jerry cans, kitchen sets, soap and food. More than 53,000 refugees from the Central African Republic were living in DRC at the end of 2013.
