Kinshasa_(dpa) _ Two persons were killed Sunday in election-day violence in the northern Congo in unrest triggered by accusations of vote-rigging.
A spokesman for the UN election observer mission MONUC said that the unrest broke out in the northern city of Bumba, where backers of Vice President Jean-Pierre Bemba charged that they found ballots already filled out with President Joseph Kabila's name on them before the voting stations had even opened.
The violence marred what was otherwise a largely quiet day of voting in the run-off election. In the province of Kasai, election observers said a man was beatn up when he was caught trying to bribe voters.
