Kigali, Rwanda (PANA) - Some 27 Rwandans who had been fighting in the ranks of the Mai Mai militiamen in eastern Democratic Republic's South Kivu province returned home on Wednesday night, official sources disclosed in Kigali Thursday.
Cyangugu civilian and military provincial authorities received the returnees before taking them to the Nyagatare transit camp for refugees within Cyangugu town where they have been temporarily sheltered.

These combatants are on an exploration tour to assess whether the Rwandan government is prepared to receive the entire groups currently in eastern DRC, where they fled after the 1994 genocide.

One of the Hutu combatants said that many other Rwandan civilians and combatants would like to return home and are currently waiting in the Bunyakili, Shabunda, Rumenja, Walikale, Kalonji and Walungu localities, in South-Kivu province.
