MSF Update: People displaced around Goma (07 February 2025)

In Goma, Eastern DRC, humanitarian needs remain critical for the thousands of people displaced by severe fighting and living in camps, schools, and churches in and around the city. MSF continues to reinforce our teams to provide emergency assistance

“Some camps in the north of the city have emptied out. Others are still full. People have fled to Goma or returned home. Many of those who remain don't know what awaits them at home, if their houses are still there,” says Virginie Napolitano, MSF’s emergency coordinator.

Over the past few days, MSF teams have resumed medical activities in several sites for displaced people. We are providing treatment for sexual violence, distributing food and water, and installing sanitary facilities.

In Goma, many people continue to collect water from the lake. MSF has installed chlorination points to disinfect the water and has donated chlorine, to limit the spread of diseases such as cholera.
