In 2015, 3,200,000 babies were born in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, or around 8,800 every day.

Among young women (aged 20-24), 27 percent gave birth by age 18.

Approximately 258 babies will die each day before reaching their first month3; 241 stillbirths occur every day.

Neonatal mortality rate:

Democratic Republic of the Congo’s neonatal mortality rate (NMR)^ is 30 deaths per 1,000 live births. NMR≠ in rural areas is 31 deaths per 1,000 live births and 28 deaths per 1,000 live births in urban areas for an urban-to-rural ratio of 0.9.

NMR≠ among the poorest households is 27 neonatal deaths per 1,000 live births, compared to 22 neonatal deaths per 1,000 live births among the richest households.
