GOMA, Congo, Oct 29 (Reuters) - The United Nations evacuated most civilian staff from its headquarters in the eastern Congolese city of Goma to the shore of Lake Kivu on Wednesday as a rebel advance threatened the town, a staff member said.
"We're leaving the HQ on our way to the DDRRR (disarmament) camp on the lake. We're in the convoy now," said the member of staff, who declined to be identified. The convoy leaving U.N. headquarters near the city's airport was made up of around 10 U.N. cars escorted by armoured vehicles, the staff member said.
