DR Congo: MONUC carries out further repatriation

By Yulu Kabamba
The United Nations Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (MONUC) carried a voluntary repatriation of nine Rwandan ex-combatants and four dependants to Kigali this Friday, 7 February 2003.

The group left Lubumbashi this morning and was accompanied by the representatives of the UN Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (MONUC), the Third Party Verification Mechanism (TPVM) and the Congolese government. At Kigali, the Head of the National Commission for Demobilization, Mr. Jean Sayinzoga welcomed the delegation. The 13 returnees are to be transferred to Mutobo Camp where, according to the procedures established by Rwandan authorities, they will spend 45 days at the end of which they will be reintegrated into civilian life.

This operation was conducted in the context of MONUC Disarmament, Demobilization, Repatriation, Resettlement and Reintegration (DDRRR) process that has, to date, carried out a voluntary repatriation of over 850 Rwandan ex-combatants and their dependants.
