Democratic Republic of the Congo, Uganda - Floods and flash floods (NOAA-CPC, FloodList, media) (ECHO Daily Flash of 23 August 2021)

  • Recent heavy rain has caused floods and flash floods across eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and Western Uganda, leading to casualties.

  • According to media, one person died and two are missing in South Kivu Province (north-eastern DRC), as widespread damage to houses and roads was reported across Bukavu City. Several injured people and damage to houses occurred as well in North Kivu Province (north-eastern DRC) after the Nyakariba river broke its banks.

  • In neighbouring Uganda, two people died and at least 20 households were displaced in Kasese District (Western Uganda Region) on 15-16 August due to floods caused by the overflow of several rivers.

  • Moderate rain is forecast over north-eastern DRC and central-western Uganda.
