Recent heavy rain has caused floods and flash floods across eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and Western Uganda, leading to casualties.

According to media, one person died and two are missing in South Kivu Province (north-eastern DRC), as widespread damage to houses and roads was reported across Bukavu City. Several injured people and damage to houses occurred as well in North Kivu Province (north-eastern DRC) after the Nyakariba river broke its banks.

In neighbouring Uganda, two people died and at least 20 households were displaced in Kasese District (Western Uganda Region) on 15-16 August due to floods caused by the overflow of several rivers.
