Democratic Republic of the Congo - Severe weather (NOAA Central Africa, METTELSAT, media) (ECHO Daily Flash of 06 December 2024)

  • Heavy rainfall and strong winds affected the western Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), in particular the Kongo Central province, on 3-4 December, causing flash floods, mudslides and a number of severe weather-related incidents that have resulted in casualties and severe damage.
  • Media report, as of 6 December, six fatalities, two people missing, seven injured and several houses destroyed and damaged across the Matadi city area, the capital of the Kongo Central province, bordering with Angola.
  • Over the next 96 hours, more rainfall is forecast across most of the Kongo Central province.
