Democratic Republic of the Congo - Landslide (media, mediamedia, NOAA-CPC) (ECHO Daily Flash of 6 March 2026)

  • On 3 March, a landslide triggered by heavy rainfall occurred at the Rubaya coltan mine located in the North Kivu province, 70 km west of Goma city, northeastern Democratic Republic of the Congo, causing fatalities and damage.
  • According to media reports, as of 5 March, more than 200 fatalities have been recorded, including 70 children, and many injured people have been evacuated from the area. On 28 January, the Rubaya coltan mine was affected by a similar landslide that caused more than 200 fatalities.
  • On 5 March, more rainfall is expected over the affected area; drier conditions are forecast on 6 and 7 March.
