• More than 1.4 million people were displaced within the DRC between January and July, primarily due to armed conflict. Additionally, the UN reported 2.4 million recent returnees nationwide as of July.
• Ongoing conflict, particularly in eastern DRC, resulted in below-average yields during the June harvest and will likely continue to drive severe food insecurity through at least January.
• The Africa CDC and WHO have declared the mpox outbreak in Africa, including cases of the faster-spreading clade Ib in the DRC, to be a public health emergency, with more than 17,500 suspected cases and 583 related deaths reported in the DRC in 2024 as of August 25. The USG is coordinating with partners in the DRC to provide emergency health assistance.
