Community member working for Medair killed in D.R Congo

It is with great sadness that relief organisation Medair has learned of the death of Jean Louis Mboliuloko, a community member contracted to work as a stock keeper for Medair. Jean Louis, aged 36, was killed while off duty on 12 August 2014 when presumed members from the Lord’s Resistance Army attacked his village on the road between Api and Bili. His three children were kidnapped by the group and their whereabouts are now unknown.

The tragic death of Jean Louis was not linked in any way to his activities with Medair.

Jean Louis was known to be a courageous, trustworthy, hard worker who carefully managed the bridge construction materials. Highly motivated, he often encouraged the rest of his community to join him in improving the situation of their village through the construction of a new bridge.

This incident in no way influences Medair’s commitment to work in D.R Congo and to help those most in need. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his wife, family and friends.

Medair has been working in D.R Congo since 1997 providing health care, clean water, sanitation and hygiene support, and infrastructure.
