ADDIS ABABA, Ethiopia (PANA) - Canada
Tuesday agreed to provide 10 vehicles and 24 radio communication equipment
worth 425,000 Canadian dollars for OAU peacekeeping operations in the Democratic
Republic of Congo.
The Canadian ambassador to Ethiopia,
John Schram, and the OAU director of finance, Faustin Kinuma, signed the
agreement for the package in Addis Ababa earlier Tuesday.
Kinuma said the gesture by the Canadian government would help the OAU mission in the DRC, while Schram said the assistance came at a crucial time.
Schram cited that the international community had the responsibility to help with the implementation of the Lusaka agreement aimed at peacefully resolving the conflict in the DRC.
He added that providing "concrete assistance" to the joint military commission of the OAU in the DRC would help it end the conflict.
