Between July and October 2025, we spoke with more than 900 people in areas of return in eastern DRC to understand their priorities, how they see social cohesion within their communities, how aid actors can better support them, and how they wish to participate in decision-making processes related to humanitarian aid.
In collaboration with Victim’s Hope DRC, Hope and Peace DRC, and CFAD, we conducted a representative quantitative survey in the Mweso and Minova health zones, as well as a qualitative community engagement exercise in Mweso centre and Minova centre, including informal exchanges, group discussions, interviews with key informants, and community workshops. A detailed summary of the results is available here: www.groundtruthsolutions.org/library/tag/Democratic+Republic+of+the+Congo.
The objective of this project, funded by the H2H network, was to support the humanitarian response in the DRC to make better decisions based on feedback from communities.
This advocacy note presents the main recommendations for actors involved in the humanitarian response in eastern DRC. Five key themes emerge from across the recommendations. Although financial resources are limited given the scope of the recommendations, they aim to optimise the use of existing funding and act not simply as additions, but as levers for sustainable improvement by ensuring: (1) that humanitarian actors communicate effectively and transparently with communities; (2) that communities are able to participate and provide feedback in a systematic manner; (3) that coordination between aid actors is improved; (4) that access is strengthened; and (5) that funding is made more flexible.
