Typhoon-15 Claims Human, Material Losses in DPRK

Pyongyang, August 30 (KCNA) -- Typhoon-15, which swept across most areas of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, left 3 people dead, over 3 300 people homeless and more than 32 000 hectares of farmland ravaged.

According to data available on Thursday, more than 490 houses were submerged or destroyed in Paekam County, Ryanggang Province and 100 in Sinpho City, South Hamgyong Province.

Over 1 250 hectares of farmland were inundated throughout the country, more than 1 000 hectares of farmland in South Hwanghae Province, one of the nation's granaries.

The typhoon damaged more than 26 000 hectares of standing cropland in North and South Hwanghae provinces.

It totally or partially destroyed some 110 public and factory buildings and toppled over 6 800 roadside trees in various areas of the country, including South Hamgyong Province and Nampho City. A total of 25 510 square meters of road were destroyed in some 90 sections. -0-
