N.Korea's population totals 24 million

North Korea's population has been found to stand at around 24 million as of October of last year.

According to the country's state-run news agency the figure was officially announced at a national conference held at the People's Palace of Culture in Pyongyang which was attended by key officials including Jerome Sauvage, the representative of the United Nations Development Programme in North Korea.

A nationwide census was carried out for 15 days from Oct. 1, 2008 and was sponsored by the UN Population Fund.
