The KSM supplies medical analysis facilities to the quality control department of the Jungsung General Medical Center, North Korea

The KSM delivered 320,000 USD worth of supplies to the Jungsung General Medical Center, North Korea, on July 23, 31 and August 7, via Incheon-Nampo sea route. The supplies included amino acid analyzer, fourier transform infrared and other 26 types of medical analysis facilities, as well as various glass wares and equipments for laboratory uses.

The KSM has been supporting North Korean medical industry ever since 2003, starting with the construction of medical production facilities at the Jungsung General Medical Center, Pyongyang. From 2003 to 2005, the KSM promoted infusion factory support project. The ground breaking ceremony for the infusion factory took place in June 2005. In the following year, a tablet factory was constructed as well. These factories meet the international standard of GMP (good manufacturing practice) in terms of construction and administration. The installation of the facilities contributed to the advancement of North Korean medical production system.

While in 2006 the KSM focused on supporting medical production facilities, the KSM is seeking to improve the safety and quality control of the medicines in 2007. The quality control office, which is currently under construction, is a management facility that will examine the quality of all raw materials and medicines produced at the factories, so that North Koreans may be provided with better quality medicines.

For the project, South Korean engineers visited the North five times in 2008 to install construction equipments. As of now, installation of the interior, laboratory tables as well as medical analysis facilities have been completed. In the early September, the last engineers' visit to the North will take place and a ground breaking ceremony will be held in the late September. At the ceremony, South Korean experts will visit the North to provide quality control training.
