Since March 2022, Croatia has granted temporary protection to refugees from Ukraine. UNHCR continues to identify opportunities for improved access to services and socio-economic inclusion.
HIGHLIGHTS
Training on refugee status determination
In May 2024, UNHCR organized a training on refugee status determination (RSD) for staff of the Ministry of the Interior’s Service for International Protection, with a focus on interviewing asylum-seekers with specific needs, particularly children and survivors of trafficking and gender-based violence (GBV). The training also covered credibility assessments and an overview of UNHCR’s eligibility guidelines on gender-based asylum claims and child-friendly asylum procedures.
Festival of Tolerance
The Festival of Tolerance was held in Zadar for the first time, with support from UNHCR, featuring a powerful selection of films focusing on the challenges faced and overcome by refugees. Additionally, Tolerance Talks and educational programmes were held with the general public and young audiences, fostering important dialogue on the refugee experience and integration.
