Croatia - Wildfires (JRC EFFIS, media) (ECHO Daily Flash of 24 June 2025)

  • At least 17 wildfires - several of which merged into a larger fire Pisak - burnt across the Makarska Riviera area, along the Dalmatian coast, in south Croatia between 21-23 June, causing population evacuations and widespread damage.
  • According to the media, as of 23 June, one firefighter has been injured.
  • In addition, damage of 17 objects, eight vehicles and two boats has been reported, one main highway has been closed, and power outages occurred in Pisak and Marušici municipalities. The wildfires burnt an area of approximately 350 ha, and the most affected places are Pisak, Marušici and Mimice.
  • Local authorities deployed 200 firefighters, 50 vehicles, and 7 aircraft to contain the wildfires. The largest fire in the Pisak area was localised on 24 June at 07:00.
  • Over the next 48 hours, according to the European Forest Fire Information System (JRC-EFFIS), the fire danger forecast is expected from high to extreme along the southern Dalmatian coast.
