Operational Updates

  • WFP is preparing to respond to the humanitarian needs of the growing number of Burkinabe asylum seekers in the northern districts of Côte d'Ivoire, with the aim of providing cash assistance to 20,000 asylum seekers and 2,500 host community households for the next six months. WFP also plans to provide acute malnutrition prevention support through blanket supplementary feeding for asylum seeker children under five and pregnant and breastfeeding women and girls.

  • The US delegation visited the Nagounkaha primary school in northern Côte d’Ivoire where WFP and partner activities are implemented. This school is part of the 613 schools supported by the United States Department for Agriculture-funded McGovern Dole programme which provides hot meals and complementary services to over 125,000 schoolchildren in seven regions.

  • WFP conducted a field mission in the cocoa- producing regions of Western Cote d’Ivoire to present the pilot agricultural insurance project to producers and local authorities and to raise awareness of agricultural insurance products. This pilot aims to insure 5,000 cocoa farmers in the Cavally region who also grow rice, a crop, particularly at risk of climate shocks. The mission outlined the next steps for this pilot including signing agreements with insurance providers, finalising the participant list, and developing a communication plan for the roll-out phase.

  • WFP organised two working sessions with the Department for School Canteens (DCS) to facilitate the pre-positioning of food stocks within the DCS regional warehouses before the next school year. This activity ensures commodities with shorter expiry dates are prioritised.

  • In a continued effort to strengthen the capacity of the Ministry of Health (MoH), WFP, WHO and the National Institute of Public Hygiene participated in an evaluation mission in the three regional emergency response centres in Guiglo, Man, and San Pedro to assess their operational capacity. The centres were found to be suitable for the upcoming MoH-led virtual pandemic simulation exercise.
