Highlights
- Children and families in Latin America and the Caribbean face multiple crises. In 2024, migrant and refugee children were especially vulnerable to family separation, violence, and life-threatening conditions, with escalating armed violence increasing risks of exploitation and recruitment by illegal groups.
- In 2024, UNICEF’s humanitarian intervention reached over 142,000 children with child protection services. Additionally, around 67,000 children gained access to education, while 104,000 people accessed sufficient quantities of safe water.
- UNICEF received US$31,3 million of its US$177,4 million appeal in 2024, in addition to US$7,2 million in carry-forward funding. In total, the appeal was 21 per cent funded. Despite the generous contributions received, significant funding gaps persisted, limiting UNICEF ability to effectively respond to the humanitarian needs and make progress against targets in critical support areas.
