By mid-2018, more than 60% of the Venezuelan population in Colombia was in an irregular situation, which created difficulties in understanding their needs, accessing services and formulating comprehensive public policies to respond effectively.

To fill this gap, the Government of Colombia carried out a mass registration exercise of Venezuelans (known as the RAMV) between April 6 and June 8 2018, with UNHCR and IOM support.

Over 442,000 Venezuelans registered in the RAMV, and are expecting to obtain the Special Stay Permit (PEP). This allows them to stay with full access to rights for 2 years, making Colombia the country with the largest number of Venezuelans provided legal status.
