The first quarter of 2011 presented humanitarian challenges related to emergencies ongoing since 2010, such as the cholera outbreak in Haiti. In the second quarter, the start of the hurricane season reactivated contingency and response planning in the region, as it is predicted to be an active season. Variation in food prices, despite a relative stability, has been another area of humanitarian interest for the second quarter. Floods in Colombia, drought in Cuba and Honduras, and the increase in cases of dengue in Paraguay are other notable occurrences during the period of April – June 2011
