HIGHLIGHTS

  • IDPs included in the official registry increased by 7 per cent in 2011, according to preliminary figures. A total of 144,109 new IDPs were registered in 2011.

  • The number of victims of explosive devices in 2011 decreased, as compared with 2010. However, the number of victims under 18 years old increased by 33 per cent.

  • Weather-related events affected over 2 million people in 2011. Many communities were already hard hit by the La Niña phenomenon between 2010 and 2011 (3.9 million people affected). Vulnerabilities are most critical in areas that are also conflict affected.
