Colombia: Summary Humanitarian Needs Overview 2023

Attachments

During the last decade, Colombia has made important efforts regarding development and peace consolidation. In August 2022, a new government was elected and with it, a renewed agenda to promote the implementation of the Peace Agreement signed with the FARC-EP in 2016, the participation of civil society in the National Development Plan formulation, and the transversal emphasis of territorial approaches, the human security and the victims. Nevertheless, during the last four years, a deterioration of the humanitarian situation has been observed due to the expansion and re-configuration of a variety of non-state armed groups (NSAGs), the increase of climate variability-related disasters, the persistence of socioeconomic needs, and the limited institutional capacities to address both internally affected population as well as the mass influx of migrants and refugees.

In this context, the humanitarian architecture has identified that, for 2023, about 7,7 million people will have intersectoral humanitarian needs. Of these people, around 3.1 million are in acute need, while 394.000 have critical needs – the majority of whom live in rural areas.
