Heavy rain, resulting in river overflows and landslides, has affected Medellín, particularly the city of Bello, a suburb of Medellín, in the Antioquia Department of northwest Colombia, over the past few days, causing deaths and damage.
As of 25 June, media reports indicate at least 11 fatalities, 15 missing people, 15 injured, and over 1,500 people sheltered after a landslide struck Bello in the early morning of 25 June. Several homes were destroyed.
Search and rescue operations are ongoing as at 26 June, with additional evacuation orders issued for Villatina, a suburb of Medellín and 60 homes in Medellín itself, next to previous evacuation orders for the Bello municipality.
Over the next 24 hours, light to moderate rain is forecast for northwest Colombia, while central and southeastern regions of the country are expected to experience moderate to heavy rainfall.
