Colombia - Floods and landslides, update (DG ECHO, WFP, UNGRD, UN OCHA, IDEAM) (ECHO Daily Flash of 6 March 2026)

  • Very heavy rainfall has affected most of Colombia (mainly northern, central and western departments) since 26 January, causing floods, flash floods and overflowing rivers and triggering landslides that have resulted in more humanitarian impact and widespread damage.
  • The affected municipalities are 144 across 22 departments. The affected departments are: Córdoba (the worst affected), Cauca, Antioquia, Nariño, Casanare, La Guajira, Santander, Chocó, Valle del Cauca, Bolívar, Magdalena, Sucre, Putumayo, Cesar, Cundinamarca, Atlántico, Bogotá, Guaviare, Caldas, Caquetá, Vichada and Meta.
  • The death toll stands at 44 fatalities. UN OCHA, WFP and UNGRD report, as of 6 March, there are more than 15 000 still evacuated people in 87 temporary shelters, 4 047 destroyed houses, approximately 23 000 damaged houses and more than 580 000 affected people across all the aforementioned affected departments. Around 78 000 affected people were reported in the Córdoba department alone.
  • Over the next 96 hours, more heavy rainfall is still forecast over central, western and south-eastern Colombia.
