This report was produced by OCHA Colombia. It covers the period between 03/12/2010 and 17/12/2010.
I. PRIORITIES / KEY HIGHLIGHTS
- On 7 December, President Juan Manuel Santos declared a "state of economic, social and ecologic emergency" due to the massive flooding the country is experiencing.
- So far 2.1 million people have been affected by this emergency. Official figures also report 279 deaths, 62 people missing, 3,000 houses destroyed and some 300,000 damaged.
- The Government has set up a Crisis Room in the Ministry of the Interior to consolidate information on the emergency and to coordinate the response. UN agencies are participating and providing technical support.
- The Government is currently discussing the modalities of possible targeted external support with international partners.
- The main response priorities are in the areas of food, shelter, and access to safe water. The Humanitarian Country Team is working on an inter-sector response plan, to be finalized in the next few days.
