Situation Update

A 6.6 magnitude earthquake jolted the border of Xinyuan County and Hejing County of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region at 5:07 a.m. on 30 June. According to the Ministry of Civil Affairs as of 4 p.m., the earthquake has affected 93,000 people and injured 52 people. 27,000 people were immediately evacuated and 36,000 houses were reported damaged.

The Red Cross Society of China Actions

The Red Cross Society of China mobilized 200 tents and 4,000 quilts to the affected areas. Xinjiang Red Cross also deployed staff to conduct need assessment and relief operation.

The Hong Kong Red Cross Actions

The Hong Kong Red Cross (HKRC), through Xinjiang Red Cross, mobilized 1,000 family kits (each include blanket, towel, clothes, mosquito net, slippers, bucket, dining utensils, etc.) with a total value of RMB259,000, to the worst hit areas. It is estimated that about 4,000 quake-affected people are benefited.

The HKRC is closely monitoring the situation in order to make further relief action plan. No appeal is launched for this operation at this moment.
