Winnie, the worst typhoon to hit Taiwan and China in the past decade, has left more than 250 people dead and some 3,000
injured. Between 17 and 19 August, the typhoon hit Taiwan, Zhejiang, Shangdong and Jiangsu provinces as well as the city of Shanghai, destroying thousands of houses. Before the typhoon reached low lying coastal areas of China, nearly a million inhabitants were evacuated. In Zhejiang province, nine Red Cross medical teams were dispatched to assist victims. They distributed medicines and clothing as well as disinfectant and spraying equipment. Six medical teams are assisting the injured in Shangdong province.
